Our triathletes, who set a historic result, returned to Tashkent
On July 3, the World Triathlon Championship among the military took place on the Spanish-owned island of Lanzarote in the Atlantic Ocean. This championship is held every 4 years by an organization called CISM-the International Council of Military Sports; and it is being held for the 22nd time. Early this morning, our triathletes, who managed to win gold in the individual and silver in the team competition, arrived in the capital. It should be noted that the results of the athletes became a triumphant event in the history of Uzbek sports.
The solemn ceremony of meeting the athletes was attended by the chairman of the NOC Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, the first deputy chairman of the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan Farrukh Nasyrov, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the media. Meeting the athletes, the leaders sincerely congratulated them on their first major victory in the international arena.
The activities of the leadership of the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan, which has been actively continuing for the last 1.5 years, gradually began to bear fruit. Speaking about the competition, we can emphasize that IRONMAN LANZAROTE is the most difficult triathlon competition because of the waves on the water stage, as well as the wind and steep mountain climbs on the cycling and running stages.
According to the regulations, first athletes swim a distance of 3.8 km in the Atlantic Ocean. Then, they will have to overcome 180.2 km through the mountainous areas of the Canary Islands. As a result, participants must run a marathon — 42,195 km. Given that these distances are overcome simultaneously, without rest, reaching the finish line is already a victory. Our compatriot Alina Khakimova, who competed in the women's age category of 18-24 years, won a gold medal. Khakimova managed to complete the program in 10 hours, 53 minutes and 14 seconds. Also, thanks to this result, she became the sixth in the overall standings among women. In the competition, our team won silver medals in the team competition.
The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan congratulates the country's triathlon Federation on such a victory and wishes success to our triathletes in the future.
