A press conference dedicated to the results of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games and before the start of the Paralympic Games was held at the Information and Mass Communications Agency under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was attended by NOC Secretary General Oybek Kassymov, Deputy Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee Sharifjon Muminjanov, Tokyo 2020 winners Akbar Juraev (weightlifting) and Ulugbek Rashitov (taekwondo), bronze medalist Davlat Bobonov (judo), representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, federations and associations, as well as many media.
At the beginning of the event, Oybek Kassymov thanked the media representatives for the continuous coverage of the Olympic Games.
"First of all, I want to express my gratitude to you for the continuous coverage of the participation of Uzbek athletes at the Olympic Games. This Olympiad was remembered by many of us. In particular, most of our athletes were young. Their results give us confidence that we will be able to win even more successes at the upcoming Olympic Games. It should also be noted that for the first time we participated in 17 sports, the geography of sports has significantly expanded, and also, for the first time, 30 of our athletes took part in the Olympic Games," said the Secretary General of the NOC.
At the event, Sharifjon Muminjanov spoke about the preparation for the Paralympic Games and the licenses won:
"Tomorrow the main delegation will go to Tokyo. Thanks to the attention from the outside, a record number of licenses were won for the Paralympic Games. We participated in Rio 2016 in 5 sports, this time 8 sports, 48 athletes and 55 licenses. For the first time we have won licenses in para-taekwondo, para-rowing and para-canoeing. We hope that this time we will justify the trust and return to our homeland, having won historical results."
Talented judoka Davlat Bobonov told about the defeat of some athletes, the conditions created to prepare for the Olympics.
"For three months in a row, we took part in the Asian and World Championships, as well as at the Olympic Games. We felt that our fans began to trust us more after the historic result at the Asian Championship. But the Olympics is a very serious competition. In preparation for the Olympics, the Ministry, the Committee and the Federation have created all the necessary conditions. I think we thought too much about the Olympics and its medals before the competition and it let us down. It's just our fault," the Olympic medalist said.
Also, the first deputy chairman of the Weightlifting Federation of Uzbekistan Shakhrullo Mahmudov, Ulugbek Rashitov and Akbar Juraev spoke at the press conference and answered journalists' questions. In addition, the performances of other participants of the competition, including Muattar Nabieva, Oksana Chusovitina, were commented on in detail, the existing shortcomings and problems were considered, as well as preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
