The Honorary President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge, has passed away

The Honorary President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge, who headed the International Olympic Committee from 2001 to 2013, has passed away.

Jacques Rogge was born in 1942 in Belgium. His commitment to sports was accompanied throughout his life. The future President of the IOC was engaged in sailing. During his sporting activities, he managed to win the title of champion of Belgium 16 times. Moreover, he became a world champion, took part in the Olympic Games (1968, 1972, 1976).

In 1991, he became a member of the IOC, and in 1998, he became executive director. During the 112th Session of the IOC in Moscow (2001), he was elected president of this organization.

During his activity, he particularly supported youth sports and fought against doping. For the first time, it was under his leadership that the Youth Olympic Games began to be held.

The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan expresses its deep condolences to the family and friends of Jacques Rogge, as well as to all members of the Olympic family.
