Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva received Muhammad Jalud, President of the International Weightlifting Federation, and Muhammad Yusef Al Mana, President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation.

The meeting was also attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Sports and the NOC. During the meeting, the systematic work being carried out in Uzbekistan to develop weightlifting, increase its popularity, support talented young athletes and train highly qualified athletes was discussed.

It was noted that the steady increase in the number of people involved in the sport in recent years and the high results achieved by Uzbek athletes at major international competitions are practical results of the reforms in the sector.

The activities of the International Weightlifting Federation in developing the sport globally, strengthening the principles of fair competition, improving anti-doping mechanisms and ensuring gender equality were highly appreciated.

The effective cooperation established between the International and Asian Weightlifting Federations and Uzbekistan, as well as their contribution to the development of weightlifting in the country and the high-level organisation of international competitions, were also particularly recognised.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the importance of the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships, to be held in Tashkent from 7 to 14 August this year, as well as the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Asian Weightlifting Federation.

It was noted that these major events will contribute to further expanding international cooperation in sport, involving young people in sport, exchanging experience and strengthening Uzbekistan’s standing in the international sports arena.

The participants also exchanged views on continuing joint efforts to further develop cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International and Asian Weightlifting Federations, host major international competitions in the country and further promote weightlifting.

As part of the meeting, a ceremony was held to officially present Muhammad Jalud with a certificate confirming that he had been granted the status of Honorary Citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
