Champion and record holder of Tokyo 2020 Akbar Juraev!

A little earlier, our weightlifter Akbar Juraev became the gold medalist of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and provided the delegation of Uzbekistan with another medal.

In the snatch exercise, he showed a result of 193 kg and was 2 kg behind his main competitor. However, in the push exercise, he managed to lift 237 kg and update the Olympic record. Also, Juraev won a gold medal.

Weightlifting, -109 kg:
1. Akbar Juraev (Uzbekistan) – 430 (193+237) kg Olympic record;
2. Simon Martirosyan (Armenia) – 423 (195+228) kg;
3. Arturs Plesnieks (Latvia) – 410 (180+230).

It should be noted that at the previous Rio 2016 Olympics, our weightlifter Ruslan Nurudinov beat Simon Martirosyan on the way to the gold medal. Then, in the clean and jerk, he showed a result of 237 kg and became the Olympic record holder. This time, Juraev updated the record in two directions at once: in the clean and jerk and the two-man event (430 kg)!

After this medal, the total number of medals in the piggy bank of Uzbekistan became 3 (2 gold and 1 bronze). Thus, we have risen to the 27th place in the team competition!
