"Sport – Messenger of Peace" Tournament Unites Students of Religious Educational Institutions in Uzbekistan
A solemn opening ceremony for the sports tournament "Imam Maturidi Cup" was held today at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan under the inspiring motto "Sport – Messenger of Peace." The event brought together students from all religious educational institutions across the country, reflecting a growing emphasis on unity, health, and dialogue through sport. Senior officials from the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan were also in attendance.
In their speeches, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of promoting sports among students of religious and higher education institutions. They emphasized how engaging youth in physical activity not only encourages a healthy lifestyle but also fosters mutual understanding and friendship between institutions.
As part of the tournament, students will compete in various disciplines, including mini-football, volleyball, table tennis, chess, checkers, e-sports, kurash (traditional Uzbek wrestling), tug of war, and weightlifting.
To further develop cooperation in the field of sport, a series of memorandums of understanding were signed between the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee, the National Paralympic Committee, and the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan — paving the way for broader collaboration and new opportunities for youth engagement through athletic initiatives.
