"They will defend the honor of the country in Tokyo": former Harvard coach, two-time World Cup medalist Bekzod Abdurakhmanov

We continue to introduce you to the licensees of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Today we will tell you about the representative of the Uzbekistan national freestyle wrestling team Bekzod Abdurakhmanov.

Bekzod Abdurakhmanov was born on March 15, 1990 in Tashkent. Two of his brothers were engaged in wrestling and Bekzod also really liked this sport. As a young man, he decided to engage in wrestling. Unlike other athletes, Abdurakhmanov learned the secrets of this sport mainly in the United States. He attended Clarion University in Pennsylvania and participated in interstate freestyle wrestling tournaments. After graduation, he began working at the world-famous Harvard University. Our compatriot for some time trained students and pupils of the university in the freestyle wrestling section. Our wrestler, who set great goals for himself, later ended his career at this university in order to protect the honor of our national team.

For a certain time, he took part in MMA. He has 7 fights on his account and all of them ended in favor of Abdurakhmanov.

Since 2014, he has been a representative of the National Freestyle Wrestling Team of Uzbekistan and takes part in major competitions. In the same year, he won bronze at the World Cup in Tashkent, and gold at the Asian Games in Incheon.

He won the 2015 Asian Championship in Qatar and the Golden Grand Prix tournament in Azerbaijan.

At the world-wide licensed tournament, Rio-2016 won a ticket to the Olympics. In Rio de Janeiro, he managed to reach the stage of the fight for bronze.

In 2017, at the Asian Championships, at the Asian Indoor Games and in martial arts, he won gold. And at the Islamic Solidarity Competition in Azerbaijan, he was awarded bronze.

At the previous Asian Games in 2018, he once again managed to prove his superiority. Also, in the same year at the World Cup, he became a bronze medalist for the second time.

This year, a licensed tournament was held in Kazakhstan, where Abdurakhmanov won a ticket to Tokyo 2020.

For his services, he was awarded the "Shukhrat" medal.
