The Olympic Family Celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the NOC of Uzbekistan
Today the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan celebrated its 30th anniversary. The celebration was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov, National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan leadership headed by its President Mr. Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov, President of the National Paralympic Committee Mr. Mukhtorkhon Tashkhodzhaev, veterans champions and Olympic medalists, who devoted their lives to promoting the Olympic Movement in our country and creating the Committee. The event was led by the NOC Uzbekistan Secretary General Mr. Oybek Kasimov, who noted its basic essence.
After the introductory part, a special video dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the NOC of Uzbekistan was presented and Mr. Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov sent a holiday greeting to the Olympic Family.
“In the short time the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan has brought a cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia and a number of international sports federations and organizations to a new level. Realizing that today the effectiveness of sports and recreational processes is linked with the aims of building New Uzbekistan, we must act with iron discipline. Taking this opportunity, in connection with the 30th anniversary of the formation of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, we express our gratitude to the head of the State and the Government, who provide us with all possible support, creating all the necessary conditions, and personally to the respected President Mr. Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev, as well as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, cooperating with us, our veterans and sports federations.", the head of the NOC said.
During the event, Mr. Igor Baraban, who was directly involved in the creation of the NOC and served as Vice-President of the Committee for many years, and Mr. Rustam Kurbanov, who headed the NOC in 2005-2009, mentioned the attention, paid by the President and the Government to the development of the Olympic Movement these days. Mr. Igor Baraban handed a copy of the historical document - Protocol No. 1 on the establishment of the NOC of Uzbekistan to Mr. Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov.
During the event, on behalf of our Olympians, the champion of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney Mr. Muhammadkodir Abdullayev, who presented the first gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games to Independent Uzbekistan, expressed his congratulations.
Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov greeted everyone on behalf of the Government and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
"Today we have gathered at a very important event. Unfortunately, due to the current epidemiological situation, we cannot hold a large-scale holiday. However, as soon as this situation stabilizes, we are planning to celebrate this event with the participation of the representatives of the International Olympic Committee , the Olympic Council of Asia and other major international sports organizations. You all know the attention paid by the President to the support of the Olympic Movement. Very shortly there will be opened schools in honor of our eminent athletes such as Oksana Chusovitina and Bakhodir Jalolov. Taking this opportunity, I once again sincerely congratulate all of you on this holiday!" Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov said.
During the event, many representatives of the National Sports Federations and Associations, who have been promoting the ideas of a healthy lifestyle and Olympism in the country for many years, received memorable gifts from the NOC of Uzbekistan.
One of the remarkable parts of the event was congratulations on the birthday of the first Uzbek athlete, who set a world record in weightlifting. Mr. Erkin Karimov made a significant contribution to the development of the Uzbek school of this sport. Mr. Karimov turns 80 today and the NOC as well as the Weightlifting Federation of Uzbekistan congratulated him on his anniversary and presented him with memorable gifts.
At the end of the event, Mr. Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov noted that with the support of the head of state, the NOC and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports would cooperate on the path of ensuring new victories for New Uzbekistan, and sent his sincere wishes to everyone.
