Lord Colin Moynihan: "Uzbekistan can become a model for the proper development of Paralympic sports"
In London, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan — Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov held talks with a member of the Upper House of the British Parliament, co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Sports Development Colin Moynihan.
During the meeting, A.Abdukhakimov spoke about the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the development of sports education, the training of qualified coaches and the Olympic Reserve of talented youth. Lord Colin Moynihan praised the efforts of Uzbekistan, which were manifested in the country's high performance at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
"In a number of aspects, in particular, the inclusiveness of Paralympic sports, Uzbekistan is ahead of some developed countries and can serve as a model for the proper development of this sphere. I would like to note that achieving long-term success requires comprehensive, systematic and science-based development of sports, primarily in terms of improving sports infrastructure, mass popularization of sports, professional development of coaches and referees, the formation of a sports reserve through targeted search and selection of talented youth," said Lord Colin Moynihan.
It should be noted that CMA Consultants, founded by Moynihan and former British Finance Minister F. Hammond, has been providing support to states, companies and international organizations on the development of sports and the holding of major sporting events for many years. As examples, the current work with Qatar on hosting the World Cup in 2022 and Saudi Arabia on the development of skiing are noted. The politician noted that taking into account the experience of CMA Consultants, the company can provide effective assistance to Uzbekistan in the development of sports and improving the country's performance at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. For his part, he proposed to jointly develop an appropriate comprehensive program and involve a highly qualified team of foreign specialists in its implementation.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of K. Moynihan and representatives of SMA Consultants to Uzbekistan for a detailed study and analysis of the state of sports in the republic and the development of specific proposals.
