Andrey Abduvaliev: "Radzivil was ready to jump 2 meters"
As we reported earlier, the Central Asian Athletics Championship among juniors and youth is currently being held in the capital. As part of the competition, the results of Tokyo 2020 and plans for preparing for the new Olympic cycle of the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan were discussed.
The meeting, which was held in the federation building, was attended by the chairman of the NOC Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Avaz Karimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee Sherzod Tashmatov, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Sports of Uzbekistan Bahodir Mahsitov, representatives of the Athletics Federation headed by Andrei Abduvaliev, coaches and judges.
At the beginning of the presentation, it was noted that in recent years, thanks to the international marathons “Save Aral” and “Navruz”, which are held in Uzbekistan, mass sports have developed noticeably in our country. After that, the results of the Tokyo Olympics were summed up and plans for the future were discussed.
"In the Tokyo cycle, the Olympic standards were high. Based on this, we planned to win from 6 to 9 licenses. Yes, if we compare it with Rio 2016 (16 licenses), this is not enough. However, now the national team is in the process of changing generations and there are problems. Among our athletes, we had high hopes for Svetlana Radzivil. During the preparation, they believed that she would show a result of 2 meters. However, she arrived in Tokyo shortly before the start, and therefore she was unable to adapt to the climate and time zone," Andrei Abduvaliev said.
During the meeting, the participation of each of our athletes was analyzed, mistakes and shortcomings were discussed. According to the chairman of the federation, about 40 athletes have been selected for the first period of the Paris-2024 cycle. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the possibility of winning a ticket to the Olympics and creating the necessary conditions for this.
