Tokyo 2020: Wrestling in the spotlight

As we previously reported, meetings are currently being held to analyze the participation of our national teams at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, to consider plans to prepare for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The performance of our sports wrestlers was discussed today. The meeting was attended by the chairman of the NOC Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov and his deputy Sherzod Tashmatov, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Sports of Uzbekistan Bahodir Mahsitov, director of the Republican School of Higher Sportsmanship in Martial Arts Bahodir Mamatnazarov.

At the meeting, the participation of our wrestlers with the coaches of the national team led by the Secretary General of the Wrestling Association of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Mamadaliyev was analyzed. According to the representatives of the association, after the Olympic Games, the situation in each direction (freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling) was carefully studied and appropriate conclusions were drawn. Based on this, the coaching staff has completely changed in women's wrestling. It became known that 5 coaches-consultants do not need help in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

"After the Olympics, we analyzed our participation and considered omissions, shortcomings. Adham Ochilov, who previously worked with our guys, will now lead the women's team. This year our attention will be focused on the Under-23 World Youth Championship, which will be held in Serbia. Because wrestlers of this age will be the main contenders for the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is very important for them to gain experience by taking part in international competitions," Shukhrat Mamadaliyev said.

During the meeting, instructions were given, in particular, not to involve "legionnaires" wrestlers as much as possible, instead to pay more attention to the selection of talented young people from remote areas, to enrich experience in the field of sports medicine and psychology.
