Have our handball players won a ticket to the World Cup yet?
Earlier we reported that the girls of the Uzbek national team, at the Asian Handball Championship in the fight for 5-8 place, defeated Jordan and won a ticket to the World Cup (http://olympic.uz/ru/86197 ). However, it later became clear that changes had been made to the regulations. The Secretary General of the Handball Federation of Uzbekistan Ismail Matkhalikov commented on the situation:
"According to the rules established at the beginning of the competition, the teams ranked 1-6 have a chance to take part in the World Championship, which will be held in December this year. However, on the day of our match with Jordan, the International Handball Federation amended the rules (https://www.ihf.info/media-center/news/spain-2021-asian-qualification-update-pr-china-receive -wild-card) and gave the Chinese team that could not participate in this competition a wild card for the World Championship. The reason for this is that one of the 12 teams (Qatar), which was supposed to participate in the Asian Championship, was absent. Thus, one of the 6 seats reserved for the Asian continent went to China. Based on this, we need another victory to reach the World Cup. But this did not affect the mood of the girls, they believe in themselves and in their strength. We will defeat Hong Kong and win a ticket to the World Cup."
The game for the fifth place, as well as for entering the World Cup, between the teams of Uzbekistan and Hong Kong will be held today at 15:00 Tashkent time. We wish good luck to our representatives.
